For over 40 years, Movement Dance Studio owner and director, Brenda Correia has taken her love and gift for dance and shared it both as a performer and as teacher, which she began at the age of 16.
She began studying dance at the age of four and through her childhood and teens studied jazz, tap, ballet, and hip-hop. Brenda is a certified dance instructor along with completing the Dance Teacher Club of Boston’s teacher training course.
Brenda explored her dance career by traveling to the West Coast where she taught at the Palm Springs School of Ballet as the primary jazz and hip-hop teacher. When she returned to Massachusetts, Brenda opened her own studio, Movement Dance Studio in 2003.
Known for her creative choreography work, Brenda has never stopped studying modern dance trends and expanding her dance knowledge and experience. Each year she shares her passion for the art and soul of dance that draws students of all ages to Movement Dance Studio.
A student of Brenda’s since she was a child, Kristen is not only a natural at dancing but her passion for both dancing and teaching translates into her serving as a positive role model for children and as a teacher. She truly wants to help children learn about themselves through dance!
She has been dancing for 25 + years where she now teaches jazz, tap, gymnastics and contemporary classes.
In addition to teaching, Kristen has performed in a multitude of numbers in each recital, choreographs, and danced at many dance conventions including Monsters, Pulse, Step up 2 Dance and more.
Kristen currently works as an Inclusion Preschool teacher at the Franklin Early Childhood Center in Melrose and has a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and Psychology.
Melyssa Perkins has been teaching dance for 30 years. For ten years, she also taught for Happy Feet, a company that brings dance education to many preschools throughout Massachusetts.
Melyssa is trained in all forms of dance and is committed to passing on her love and passion for dance to all her students. She completed the Dance Teacher's Club of Boston Teacher Training Program and is a Certified Personal Trainer.
Melyssa graduated from Revere High School in 1995. She received a B.A. degree in Elementary Education with a second major in Multidisciplinary Studies Surrounding the Visual and Performing Arts from Stonehill College in 1999.
She constantly strives to remain innovative by continuing her education in dance instruction and choreography through frequenting conventions and seminars given by some of the top dance personalities in the business.
Gwen Townshend is currently a student at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science University studying to get her Bachelor of Science in Health Psychology on the Premedical (MD) Pathway.
Gwen has been dancing for 17 years and training in all styles. She has been dancing at Movement for over 10 years. Over the years, Gwen is extremely grateful of all of the opportunities she's experienced with dance, including competitions, conventions, and backup dancing for local artists.
Outside of Movement, Gwen was the captain of the Wakefield High School Varsity Dance Team and currently the president of the Colleges of the Fenway Dance Program!
